SECTION 230:15-9-36. Disposition of rejected voter registration applications

- (a) Rejected application information in MESA. Information about voter registration applications that have been rejected for any reason shall remain as pending applications in MESA for 60 days from the date the rejection notice was formatted. If the applicant returns the requested additional information during this 60-day period, the additional information shall be added to the application in MESA. At the end of this 60-day period, information about rejected applications shall be purged from MESA automatically. If an applicant returns additional information about a rejected application after the application has been purged from MESA, the information cannot be processed and the application shall remain rejected. The letter shall be filed in alphabetical order by month in the Additional Information Correspondence File and shall be retained for 24 months.(b) Rejected application forms. Voter registration application forms that have been rejected because they are incomplete shall be retained in the Additional Information Requested File for 60 days after the rejection notice is formatted. If the applicant returns the additional information requested within 60 days, the application form shall be removed from the Additional Information Requested File and shall be processed as outlined in 230:15-9-35. At the end of the 60-day period, all rejected applications that remain in the Additional Information Requested File shall be transferred to the Rejected Applications File and shall be retained for 24 months.
