SECTION 252:641-15-4. Dikes

- (1) Topsoil. Before construction, all vegetation and topsoil shall be removed in the area of the dikes.(2) Lifts. Dikes shall be constructed of homogenous clay in six to nine inch (6"-9") compacted lifts.(3) Slope. Dikes shall be constructed with a slope of no more than one foot (1') vertical rise per three feet (3') horizontal run (1:3) with a minimum top width of four feet (4'). The top of dikes shall be uniformly graded with no depressions or mounds that would hinder maintenance.(4) Gravity flow systems. For gravity flow systems, the top of the dike shall be at least six inches (6") below the lowest floor elevation of any building served.(5) Surface runoff. The top of the dike shall be at least one foot (1') above the surrounding terrain to divert surface runoff.
