- (a) Deflection test. Perform deflection tests on all flexible pipe after the final backfill has been in place at least 30 days. Deflection must not exceed 5%. Tests must be run using a rigid ball or mandrel with a diameter equal to 95% of the inside diameter of the pipe taking into account manufacturing tolerances. Tests must be performed without mechanical pulling devices. Specify the applicable ASTM standard for the test to be used.(b) Leakage test. Leakage tests are required for all gravity lines. Hydrostatic tests must use a 2-foot test head and leakage inward or outward must not exceed 10 gallons per inch of pipe diameter per mile per day. Specify the applicable ASTM standard for the test to be used. The procedures listed in the Handbook of PVC Pipe, Uni-Bell PVC Pipe Association, 2001 may be used for PVC pipe. An air test result must assure a leakage limit equivalent to the hydrostatic test limit.
