- (1) Consideration of a patient's right to be involved in health care decisions, in collaboration with a physician or licensed independent practitioner.(2) Consideration of a patient's right to accept or reject medical care to the extent permitted by law.(3) A patient's right to information necessary to enable the patient to make informed treatment decisions. This information shall be presented in plain language and in a format which the patient can understand; e.g., in their language if they do not speak English, sign language for the deaf, or other appropriate methods.(4) Policies for patients who are diagnosed as terminal and the therapies which are aimed at optimizing comfort and alleviating pain.
