SECTION 445:10-1-7. Embalming of medical examiner cases

  Since the chemical compounds used in embalming alter the characteristics of tissue of the body, make toxicologic procedures difficult and more costly, and may in certain cases render the toxic agent completely non-detectable, the medical examiner must completely examine any case coming under his jurisdiction and obtain appropriate specimens for the toxicologic examination prior to any embalming procedure. Any medical examiner case to be subject to autopsy under the provisions of Title 63 OS, Section 944 may not under any circumstances be embalmed prior to such autopsy unless permission is given for such procedure by the chief medical examiner or a deputy chief medical examiner.
