SECTION 595:11-7-11. Insurance

- (a) A school shall be insured, by an insurance company licensed to do business in this state, with a commercial liability insurance policy for each commercial motor vehicle used to conduct behind-the-wheel instruction. The minimum amount of insurance shall consist, for any one collision, of at least Fifty Thousand Dollars ($50,000.00) for bodily injury to or death of one person; One Hundred Thousand Dollars ($100,000.00) for bodily injury to or death of two or more persons; and Fifty Thousand Dollars ($50,000.00) for damage to property. The above coverage shall be carried on each vehicle used by the school for driver training purposes.(b) Each school shall send a copy of the certificate of insurance, including a schedule of covered vehicles, when applying for the school's original or renewal license. If insurance coverage expires between school renewal certification periods, the school shall send a copy of the renewal certificate of insurance to the Department.(c) In the event the insurance coverage is canceled, a copy of the written notice of cancellation shall be forwarded immediately to the Department by registered or certified mail. Behind-the-wheel instruction shall be immediately suspended until proper verification of insurance coverage is provided to the Department of Public Safety.
