SECTION 310:281-9-1. Purpose

- (a) This subchapter establishes standards for protection against radiation hazards. Except as otherwise specifically provided, this subchapter applies to all permittees. It is the purpose of the regulations in this subchapter to control the use and transfer of diagnostic x-ray systems by any permittee in such a manner that the total dose to an individual does not exceed the standards of radiation protection prescribed in this subchapter. Nothing in this subchapter shall be interpreted as limiting the intentional exposure of patients to radiation for the purpose of medical diagnosis.(b) In addition to complying with the requirements set forth in this subchapter, every reasonable effort shall be made to maintain radiation exposures to unrestricted areas to as low as is reasonably achievable.
